SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An accountant has been sentenced to more than five years in custody for embezzling $100,000 from Girl Scouts in Southern California.

Orange County prosecutors say 35-year-old former foreign exchange student Mawufemor Biekro of Ghana handled payroll and account ledgers for the Girl Scout Council of Orange County.

He forged two checks a month during a nine month period ending in February 2011.

Biekro was sentenced on Thursday to five years and four months in custody. Under new California sentencing guidelines, he will serve two years and four months in jail, followed by three years under mandatory supervision.

The judge also ordered him to pay $102,479 in restitution to the Girl Scouts.
