Orchard Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Bills acted quickly to find a new defensive coordinator, naming former Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz to the post on Friday.

The news came a day after Mike Pettine, who ran the Buffalo defense for one season, left to become Cleveland's head coach.

Schwartz was fired by the Lions last month after a late-season meltdown resulted in the team missing the playoffs. He compiled a 29-51 record in five seasons with the Lions and led them to one postseason appearance.

Prior to taking the job with the Lions, Schwartz served as the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans from 2001-08.
