RENO, Nev. (KRNV & - On Monday October 21st a 12 year-old brought a gun to Sparks Middle School, he shot three and then himself. There are still many unanswered questions about the incident. In an interview with the parents of the shooter News 4 tried to answer some of them, including questioning the father about a child abuse charge.

The gunman, Jose Reyes was a victim of child abuse by his own father more than a year before the shooting. Court documents show the father, Jose Reyes-Mandujano, was arrested in January 2012 after he “lost control of himself” and hit his son two or three times.  His son, Jose junior, suffered a black eye.  The father was arrested on a felony charge of child abuse and a misdemeanor battery charge. The battery charge was later dismissed and he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor after the felony charge was reduced.

We asked both the Sparks Police Department and the Washoe County District Attorney to comment on the child abuse case.  They both denied comment because the current investigation into the Sparks Middle School shooting is still underway.

Part #2 Well the Reyes family can. As for TONYSAM, AKA: PIG, you discuss me. You are one of the reasons why our world is turning to crap. Thank you PIG! The reason why I'm commenting on this story is because of all the trash talking that is going on about the Reyes family. When it comes down to it the boy made his own choice. It has nothing to do with the way the parents raised him. The parents defiantly did not raise him or teach him to do what he did. The boy made his own decision and there's nothing we can do to change it. Lay off the parents and give them a break. News 4 should block the comments on this story to help prevent racist people from commenting on this story. The only thing News 4 is doing is adding fuel to the fire. Common you guys, stop and think what our world is turning into. The horrible comments that people are writing is only making things worse.

Wow it's amazing. What is our world cominng to? For starters it amazes me how news 4 is reporting this story. Its very obvious that these stories were all recorded on the same day. However, news 4 is deciding to give us little clips of what happened. All they are doing is stringing the story out and keeping it fresh in everyone's mind. I'm sure this is not something that everyone wants to keep being reminded about. For crist sake, it might be giving other people ideas. Thanks News 4 for reporting/promoting the story to our community. It's jaw dropping to read most of the comments that people/PIGS are writing. In my opion what some of you PIGS are writing is just as bad as what the kid did at the school. To me there is no difference between the two and you are no better the the Reyes kid. I hope karma hits you all hard and bites you in the ass cause you PIGS defiantly deserve it. As for the boy that did the shooting there is no more to be said. What's done is done and I'm sure we will never know how and why it happened and when it comes down to it I don't think there is anything we can do to stop it from happening again. Our entire world is changing and there is nothing we can do except go for the ride. Ya I know some of you are thinking yes there is something we can do, but when it comes down to it there's to many "I don't care people" and not enough "I can make a change people" because nobody cares anymore and our community/world is falling apart. As for the Reyes parents I feel completely horrible for them and I think everyone needs to give them a break. You PIGS are talking smack about them and you have no idea or clue who they are. Based on what I saw and found out about them they seem to be good honest and hard working people who came to this county to make a life for them selves. How many of you PIGS/RACIST/BAD KARMA RECEIVING writers can say you moved to a different country, worked hard, started a family and started your own business? Part #1

Come on, everyone is or was abused in some way that does not give anyone the right to kill people! The boy made a choice it was the wrong one! The boy was old enough to know right from wrong The school, the parents and the weapon use should not be blamed! Its like work saying cant do over time you are fired! If that is not abuse then what is it! It is everywhere but it doesn't give us a right to hurt people!

Maryana, you are full of s***. You keep peddling unsubstantiated rumors of "bullying" because you have a bone to pick with WCSD when all of the evidence is showing there were problems with his kid's home life. This kid wasn't "spanked"--he was BEATEN.

It is far more likely Jose Reyes lashed out "at the world" for what happened at home than it is he wanted to exact "revenge" on alleged bullies which haven't been proven to exist. It makes total sense to me. I just cannot believe the mentality of some helicopter parent types who think the school district was somehow at fault for negligence and even violence at home.

Maryana, I agree with your comments about roseanya. Makes many judgemental and presumptive statements about 'illegals'. Wow. And even if they were, so what. Illegal immigrants are a fact of life in our country. A lot of them are just looking for an opportunity to better their life and circumstances, sounds a lot like the "American Dream" (which all of us are pursuing every day!)..right?! I'm not aware of the details of the child abuse charges, but it doesn't seem right... There is a fine line between child abuse and child REARING..and that fine line differs from parent to parent, the reason why it is such a sensitive area of discussion. I personally was "abused" actually just spanked and got the leather belt once when I really messed up and there are many who would consider that abuse today. I believe that I deserved everything I got and it made me a more responsible member of society TODAY. A direct quote from my father," I don't care what my child thinks of me today, or even what he thinks of me tomorrow, I care what HE thinks of HIMSELF when he grows into a MAN and has to be part of a collective group of people." Of course there are going to be people who disagree with this type of child rearing, but it worked for me and a lot of other people too. BTW, how are those peoples kids acting?? LOL

Okay Roseanya first thing first Violence is a BEHAVIOR not an attitude!!!And how in the world do you know he was going to be violent again you judgmental person. Why wont they deport you just because there Hispanic doesn't meant that they don't have citizenship!!! But of course only ignorant racist people like you would think that. In the end your negativity doesn't help if your going to and people like you are going to post rude disrespectful and dumb comments like this it still will justify anything because you don't know anything!!! Instead of having a little sympathy for the child and hoping his in a better place your going to disrespect and assume things your PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!! That child was bullied at school and no one was there to help him he was barley 12 your heart less but the people that hurt him will live with that for the rest of there life.

Violence is an attitude. Dad would have been violent REPEATEDLY. The kid lived in fear and was bullied by his own dad? So the courts just dismissed and dumped this kid back to a difficult life. And see what happens. The kid learned violence at home and took it to school with him. Deport the illegal parents.
