LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles police officer who was badly injured in a crash involving an allegedly drug-impaired driver has died.

Police spokeswoman Nuria Vanegas says Officer Chris Cortijo (Kor-TEE'-hoh) died Wednesday afternoon.

He'd been hospitalized in critical condition since the crash Saturday evening.

Authorities say Cortijo's motorcycle was stopped at a traffic light in Sun Valley when an SUV struck him from behind and pinned him to the car in front.

The driver, 33-year-old Qaneak Shaney Cobb of Pacoima, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to driving under the influence of a drug and possession of cocaine. She remains jailed.

It's not immediately clear whether Cobb will face additional charges because of the officer's death.
