LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police have arrested a man who took off in a police cruiser after being stopped for possibly driving drunk.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith said Monday that 54-year-old Lawrence Goudeau was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony evading.

Officers were trying to stop Goudeau late Sunday when he drove into parked cars, hit a stop sign and fire hydrant, and tried to run. Smith says police car video showed Goudeau move aggressively toward officers with his hands in his waistband. When officers took cover, he fled in their police car.

A helicopter followed him about 1.5 miles to Wilshire police station where he stopped and officers arrested him.

Smith says rock cocaine and a stolen shotgun were found in Goudeau's vehicle. He's being held on nearly $160,000 bail.
