LOS ANGELES (AP) — A pair of Los Angeles high schools have won first and second place at the national Academic Decathlon, besting competitors from all over the country.

The San Bernardino Sun reported Monday that the team from El Camino Real Charter High School dominated the weekend competition in Hawaii, capturing its seventh national title.

El Camino finished with 52,601 points out of a possible 60,000 in the large school category. The school last won in 2010. Granada Hills High, which had been aiming for its fourth consecutive title, scored 52,392 as runner up. Rockwall High School in Texas came in third.

Fifty-one competing teams were questioned on subjects such as math, art, science, economics and literature.
