FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno police say a 34-year-old man described as high on methamphetamine has been shot and killed in a struggle with a Fresno police officer.

The Fresno Bee reports  police were called about a family disturbance an apartment in southeast Fresno around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Fresno Deputy Chief Pat Farmer says when an officer arrived a sister of the man led the officer into the apartment, where he and the man became involved in the struggle.

Farmer says during the struggle the sister saw her brother reaching for the officer's gun and jumped on his back to try to help the officer.

Farmer says when the suspect broke away, the officer shot him once in the upper body.

The man was taken to a hospital where he died. The officer was treated for lacerations and bruises.
