SAN DIEGO (AP) — A man who beat an acquaintance to death with a rock at a San Diego homeless camp has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison.

U-T San Diego ( ) says 38-year-old Joshua Larson was sentenced Wednesday, two months after he was convicted of second-degree murder.

Prosecutors say he was seeking revenge when he attacked 31-year-old Jason Huggins in June of last year.

Two years earlier, Larson had taken Huggins' wallet from his back pocket. Huggins cooperated with police and Larson was convicted of grand theft.

Larson has previous convictions for drunken driving and drug offenses. His public defender argued that Larson's addictions derailed his life.
