LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man who started shooting at Henderson officers during a traffic stop on a busy boulevard was killed in a volley of return fire.
Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul says a motive for the 8 a.m. Tuesday gunbattle on Boulder Highway isn't immediately clear.
Paul says the gunman simply approached an officer in a patrol car near College Drive and started shooting.
The patrol car was peppered with bullets, but the officer got away unhurt.
Paul says the gunman crossed Boulder Highway and kept shooting at other officers arriving at the scene before he was fatally wounded.
Paul says the man was pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. His name wasn't immediately made public.
No police officers or anyone else was wounded.
