SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man has been sentenced to five years in prison after authorities say he pimped a teenager who was later killed.
The Orange County Register says Marsalis Smith of Gardena was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to human trafficking and making criminal threats.
Smith was arrested after a 17-year-old girl caught during a prostitution sting in Santa Ana told officers she feared Smith would hurt her or her family unless she followed his orders.
Authorities say Smith had lured Aubreyanna Parks of Gardena into prostitution with promises of money and clothing but also threatened her.
The girl was taken to a shelter but walked away days later. She was found stabbed to death in February in Yorba Linda. A man has been charged with her murder.
