SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco's famed cable cars have been running into mechanical problems overnight that has some of its lines shut down.

San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesman Paul Rose says all cable car service was shut down Friday, but that after repairs were made to the cables that operate the lines, service on all the lines resumed at 5 a.m. Saturday.

But then around 8:30 a.m., Rose says the Powell-Mason and Powell-Hyde Cable were shut down again because of equipment issues.

Rose says crews were trying to repair the problem, but could not say when service would be completely restored.
