Memorial held for those killed in Hawthorne explosion

HAWTHORNE, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Today, a private memorial service was held for the Marines that were killed in the Hawthorne Army Depot explosion last month.

The memorial for the seven fallen marines was attended by the members of the unit and the families of the deceased. The explosion happened just before 10pm Monday, Mar. 28, when a 60 millimeter mortar shell exploded in a tube as marines were preparing to fire it.

The Hawthorne Army Depot is a 230 square mile ammunition storage and training facility east of Reno.

The fallen marines were:

19 Year-Old Private First Class Joshua M. Martino
20-Year Old Lance Cpl. David P. Fenn Ii
23-Year Old Lance Cpl. Roger W. Muchnick Jr.
21- Year Old Lance Cpl. Joshua C. Taylor
21 Year Old Lance Cpl. Mason J. Vanderwork
21-Year Old Lance Cpl. William T. Wild Iv
and 26-Year Old Corporal Aaron J. Ripperda

Eight other Marines were injured during the accident as well.
