SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco fire officials say a woman and her 3-year-old son who died in an apartment blaze were found in the apartment's bathroom.

The victims have been identified as 32-year-old Esther Ioane and her son, Santana Williams. They were inside the apartment when the blaze tore through it around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The apartment is in a public housing complex in the city's Visitacion Valley neighborhood. A total of three apartments were damaged, although officials tell the San Francisco Chronicle smoke detectors in all three were working.

Santana suffered burns and died at a hospital. Some residents on the building's upper floor had to jump to safety from windows.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
