HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — A 30-year-old Las Vegas mother accused of having her 11-year-old son torch her van is set to appear in court.
Juanita Denise Carr is expected in Henderson Justice Court on Thursday on charges of conspiracy, arson and child abuse.
Carr reportedly told Henderson police she was behind on her loan payments and the van didn't run properly despite $1,200 in recent repairs.
Police say she had her son pour gasoline inside the van Sept. 11 while it was parked on a remote street near Sam Boyd Stadium, and then lit it on fire with a napkin. The flames then caught the boy's shirt on fire and caused him burns on 40 percent of his body.
He was taken to University Medical Center.
Carr was arrested the next day.
