Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners recalled once promising prospect Jesus Montero from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.
Montero takes the roster spot of outfielder Michael Saunders, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation after Wednesday's loss to the New York Yankees.
The 24-year-old Montero has hit .270 with eight home runs, 15 doubles and 40 RBI over 59 games with the Rainiers this season.
Seattle acquired Montero, listed as a first baseman and designated hitter, from the Yankees in a January 2012 trade that sent Michael Pineda to the Bronx.
Saunders has batted .272 with four homers and 25 RBI in 52 games this year.
