RENO, Nev. (KRNV, & NBC News) - It's called Venus Transit, the planet Venus crosses over the face of the Sun. It won't be seen again for over a hundred years.

For this transit a spacecraft from the European Space Agency is orbiting the planet. It's called the Venus Express and will be sending a unique view of the transit.  The transit is visible until sunset tonight.  If you look at the sky, you need to take precautions just like when looking at the recent eclipse.

During the last transit in 2004 scientists spotted a halo around Venus indicating that Venus had an atmosphere. Scientists hope this transit will be just an enlightening.

The next transit won't occur until 2117.
