LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal crash investigators plan to report the cause of a twilight sightseeing helicopter crash that killed a pilot and four tourists outside Las Vegas in December 2011.
The National Transportation Safety Board in Washington, D.C., is due Tuesday to review findings of a 13-month investigation of the Sundance Helicopters crash.
Preliminary findings made public last June said critical steering hardware wasn't found at the scene of the crash.
Officials say the mechanism had been overhauled the day before, but the helicopter passed multiple inspections the day of the crash.
Another tour company pilot also described hearing a shriek over the radio about 30 seconds before he saw smoke.
Killed were two honeymooners from India; a Utica, Kan., couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, and the 31-year-old pilot.
