Nationals call up Schierholtz

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Washington Nationals selected the contract of outfielder Nate Schierholtz on Saturday and optioned outfielder Michael Taylor to Triple-A Syracuse.

Schierholtz, 30, was signed by the Nationals to a minor league contract on Monday. He had six home runs in 99 games for the Cubs earlier this season.

Taylor, who made his major league debut on Aug. 12, hit 3-for-18 with the Nationals in seven games during his first stint in the big leagues.

Washington also moved outfielder Nate McLouth to the 60-day disabled list. McLouth was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 2 earlier this week with right shoulder inflammation.
