CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — State officials say Nevada's unemployment rate is down to its lowest level in three and a half years.
The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation says Monday that Nevada's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 11.5 percent in October. That's down from 11.8 percent the month earlier, and it's the lowest rate since May 2009.
Las Vegas' unemployment rate was 11.1 percent, while the Reno area had a 10.6 percent jobless rate and Carson City registered at 10.7 percent. Those numbers aren't seasonally adjusted.
State economist Bill Anderson says the state added a seasonally adjusted 2,200 jobs in October.
Gov. Brian Sandoval says the jobless rate drop is a significant step for Nevada, but adds that the state still needs to diversify its economy and add private-sector jobs.
