RENO, Nev. (AP) — Ninety members of Nevada's National Guard returned to Reno amid cheers and patriotic songs after a deployment in Afghanistan.
The returning members were part of the 485th Military Police Company that provided security to about 2,400 detainees at a facility in Parwan province.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that (http://goo.gl/hpojX ) some of the National Guard members who returned Wednesday night had been deployed for as long as 10 months.
National Guard spokesman Maj. April Conway says the return of a National Guard unit can prompt a larger response than an Army unit because the National Guard members are returning to their actual homes.
