Reno, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) - University of Nevada football coach Chris Ault announced the dismissal of running back Mike Ball from the team on Tuesday.  Ball, Nevada’s all-team leader in kick returns with 1,695 yards on 70 returns, is a junior from Las Vegas.

Ault said in a statement, “Mike violated team rules and protocol and, unfortunately for him, there was no other alternative… We’ll do everything we can to help Mike move forward.”

This year Ball had lead the team with 704 rushing yards on 135 carries. He also had three rushing touchdowns.  Ball played in nine games this season with five starts.

For his career, Ball had 1,183 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns rushing. He also had four receiving touchdowns.

Don't really follow football but if you take a risk that may jeopardize your career then the punishment is just. A famous NASCAR driver was caught about 3 years ago doing drugs and they canned him FOR GOOD from the sport. He still is in trouble to this day with authorities. There is a "no-tolerance" in sports. Mike Ball is a college educated person who should have minded his "P's & Q's".

I believe that there should be some changes made to violations to UNR team members and athletes for certain violations. I can not believe that Mike Ball would jeopardize his career and put his teammates and the WolfPack in this situation so close to the end of the year and when they truly need him the most for these last two games. It did not say what Mike was in violation of , but knowing how personable and outgoing Mike is on and off the field , I can't believe he would do anything to allow this to happen. Mike is a great inspiration to his team and to the community. I hope that the Athletic Department will see to change some rules and allow Mike to finish out this season and the year.
