STATELINE, Nev. (AP) — The Douglas County sheriff's office says the New Year's Eve celebration at Lake Tahoe went smoothly with few problems.

Authorities say the crowd wasn't any larger than in past years. U.S. 50 through the casino corridor was closed about 20 minutes before midnight and reopened an hour into the new year.

Deputies say 24 people were arrested on various charges ranging from assault and domestic battery to disorderly conduct and minor consuming alcohol.

In the Minden-Gardnerville area, one person was arrested for drunken driving.
