LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a baby girl has been left at a hospital in Lancaster under Los Angeles County's Safe Surrender program.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1c4N3g5 ) the newborn girl handed over this week is in protective custody and will be placed with a family by the Department of Children and Family Services.
County officials say the girl is the seventh this year to be surrendered under the program.
Safe Surrender lets someone give up an infant that shows no signs of abuse and is no more than three days old.
The newspaper says this latest turnover marks the 110th baby given up to the program since it began more than a dozen years ago.
