North Las Vegas police say slain man had fake gun

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — North Las Vegas police say a man who was shot and killed after leading officers on a chase on a motorized scooter and on foot displayed a fake handgun on a dark residential street.

North Las Vegas police Officer Aaron Patty says the fatal shooting happened a little before 2 a.m. Friday in a neighborhood near Revere Street and Tropical Parkway.

Patty says the fleeing man was shot several times and died later at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

No officers were injured.

The names of the dead man and the officer weren't immediately made public. Patty says the officer is a six-year police veteran.

Patty says the chase began after the man failed to stop the scooter for officers near Ann Road and Camino El Norte.
