OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland city officials have scheduled a news conference to discuss a spate of shootings over the last several days that has left four people dead and 11 others wounded.
Police Chief Howard Jordan and Mayor Jean Quan are among those expected to speak at the conference at 12:45 p.m. Monday.
The Oakland Tribune reports that 11 people were shot in several incidents over the weekend, including five Sunday night. All the victims are expected to survive.
The weekend shootings came after four fatal shootings within a span of about six hours on Friday.
Violent crime in Oakland has been on the rise. The city announced last month that it was hiring former New York City police commissioner and Los Angeles police chief Bill Bratton as a consultant.
