WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- News 4 has learned Humboldt County is reimbursing two people who accused the sheriff's office of seizing their money illegally during traffic stops.

The reimbursements come after a federal lawsuit was filed, and an On Your Side investigation which addressed questions as to whether the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is violating civil rights. Reno attorney John Ohlson confirmed to News 4 that Humboldt County has agreed to settle two cases, one for $50,000 and the other for $2,400. The county has also agreed to pay $10,000 in attorneys fees.

Ohlson's clients said they were stopped while driving through Winnemucca. Sergeant Lee Dove is accused of seizing their money, even though they were not charged with a crime.

The Humboldt County Sheriff and the District Attorney's office declined to comment on the settlement.

Excellent coverage and result. Now, what's happening about the custody case in Las Vegas with Judge Jennifer Elliot saying that the father was alienating his children from their child-abusing mother?

We finally got national attention with respect to this matter. It should not have even gotten this far. Now the county is out an extra $10k and enough egg on their face to last a long time. Shout out to Joe Hart for first breaking this story.
