SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called for minimal military involvement in Iraq and praised California for passing a timely budget during a visit to the state capital.
The San Francisco Democrat joined Gov. Jerry Brown and other elected leaders Monday to open the California Democratic Party headquarters.
Pelosi told reporters she supports President Barack Obama's response to the deteriorating security condition in Iraq by refusing to commit ground troops.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that the U.S. has not ruled out military cooperation with Iran to combat the insurgents. Pelosi says she is open to discussing military assistance with Iran.
And while she supported the $108 billion budget the Legislature passed Sunday, Pelosi said it could have done more for early childhood education and social service spending.
