Pens ship Neal to Predators

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins made the first splash in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, sending forward James Neal to the Nashville Predators.

Heading from the Music City to the Steel City will be forwards Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling.

Neal finished the 2013-14 season, his third full campaign with the Pens, by totaling 27 goals and 61 points in 59 regular-season games. He added two goals and two assists in 13 postseason appearances.

Hornqvist, 27, picked up 22 goals and 31 helpers in 76 games for the Predators, the only NHL franchise for which he's played. A native of Sweden, Hornqvist departs Nashville having racked up 106 goals and 216 points over 363 games.

Spaling finished his fifth NHL season with a career-best 13 goals and 19 assists over 71 appearances. Since breaking into the league during the 2009-10 season, the 25-year-old center has collected 40 goals and 84 points in 297 tilts.
