Pharrell Williams' track "Happy" has been named the biggest-selling single of 2014 so far on both sides of the Atlantic.

Williams' song, which was released in October, has topped the mid-year sales figures in Britain by selling 1.3 million copies in the U.K. in the first six months of 2014, leading the list compiled by The Official Charts Company.

The anthem has also been named the year's biggest digital single in America after shifting 5.6 million copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In Britain, Coldplay's sixth record "Ghost Stories" was named 2014's biggest selling album so far with sales in excess of 375,000, while in America, the honour went to the soundtrack to Disney film "Frozen", which has shifted more than 2.7 million copies.
