(NBC New York, KRNV & MyNews4.com)-- NEW YORK, NY. Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead inside his Manhattan apartment from an apparent drug overdose, law enforcement sources said.
A friend discovered Hoffman on the bathroom floor of his Greenwich Village home and called 9-1-1. Police say he was fully clothed, and a bag of heroin and needle were found nearby. They say Hoffman died of an apparent heroin overdose. The 46-year-old Hoffman had a history of struggles with substance abuse.
Hoffman won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2006 for his starring role in the 2005 movie, Capote. He also earned two Tony nominations for his work on Broadway.
