Pirates' McCutchen leaves with rib injury

Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen left Tuesday's win over the St. Louis Cardinals with left rib discomfort.

McCutchen, the 2013 National League MVP, spent time on the disabled list earlier this month with a fractured rib. He was hit by a pitch on Aug. 2 and went on the 15-day disabled list before returning to the lineup on Aug. 19.

The Pirates also lost first baseman Pedro Alvarez, who left in the sixth inning with a left foot injury.

The Pirates won Tuesday's game, 5-2, on Ike Davis' pinch-hit, three-run homer in the eighth inning.
