RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Rainshadow Community Charter High School is set to close.
The principal, Steve West, says they're closing due to a lack of funding, as they're facing a $200,000 budget gap.
Students were told about the closure on Thursday. West says it was a tough decision, but one that has been a long time coming. Five years ago, teachers took a five percent pay cut to help the school stay open. West said after losing some of their funding from the state, and seeing a lack of money coming into their foundation, they've "barely been getting by." They've tried opening a student run coffee shop and pizzeria to help generate extra income, but both were forced to close.
He says so far, no other funding sources have come forward.
West says, until they close at the end of this school year, it will be business as usual, and classes will stay as scheduled.
