LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sen. Harry Reid has joined those in favor of changing the name of the Las Vegas airport.
Reid was asked about renaming McCarran International Airport during a ceremony Friday at the airport's new Terminal Three.
The airport is named for the late U.S. Sen. Pat McCarran, a conservative Democrat who served in the Senate from 1932 until his death in 1954.
Reid called McCarran "one of the most prejudiced people ever to serve in the Senate" and said his name shouldn't be on anything.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports any decision to rename the airport rests with the Clark County Commission, which owns and operates the airport.
