RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Our community is reeling once again, less than two months since a deadly shooting at Sparks Middle School - another shooting has rocked Northern Nevada.
This time at a medical building on the Renown Regional Medical Center Campus. Just after 2 o'clock two Tuesday afternoon a man, acting alone opened fire in the urology office of Nevada Advanced Medicine.
Two people are confirmed dead, including the shooter, who turned the gun on himself less than three minutes after firing the first shot. Two others who were shot before it was all over were in critical condition Tuesday night.
Elias Johnson sat down with Vicki Green Tuesday evening who was scheduled to see a doctor at the office. The suspect stood beside her at the nurses' check in station before the shooting.
She said he seemed calm and yet agitated at the same time because of how he took the long gun and banged it on the nurses desk three times.
Vickie told News 4 the shooter went around towards where you are called to see the doctor. There he started swinging the gun and telling everyone in the waiting room, "You need to get out, you better get out... You should get out". Vickie said people started picking up their belongings and kids and started running.
She said when they got into the hallway, people were getting off one elevator. Patients from the office were trying to get into that elevator and pulled people back into the elevators in area telling them was a man with a gun.
Vickie thanked the emergency crews for their work, "I have to give total praise to all the first responders, Reno PD, Sparks PD was there, Washoe County Sheriffs, EMTs were there within minutes."
Looking back Vickie told News 4, "I could have grabbed the gun, I was that close to him. I could have grabbed him." She said it felt surreal like she was watching herself in a movie and thinking this kind of thing happens on TV it doesn't happen here.
