Reno and Sparks Police Report Quiet Night

RENO & SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Both Reno and Sparks Police increased staffing on New Year's Eve into New Year's morning and reported only a few incidents.

In Reno, police were assisted by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety/Parole and Probation to provide public safety downtown for the thousands of people gathered on North Virginia Street to watch the fireworks celebration.

During the event, one person was issued a citation for a misdemeanor offense. In addition, there were 21 misdemeanor arrests, 2 gross misdemeanor arrests and five detainments for civil protect custody. Also during the event, 8 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In Sparks, around 20 citations were issued and 9 arrests made. Of those 9 arrests, 3 were for DUI. The remaining 6 were for various other offenses including warrants, trespassing and domestic battery.
