RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Renown settled a dispute with the 12 cardiologists today in court with Judge Brent Adams approval, according to a source close to the information. The doctors sued the hospital, claiming Renown failed to pay them their full salaries they had agreed to when the hospital acquired the cardiology group.

Back in December of 2012, the FTC issued a ruling that forced Renown to releases its cardiologists from their non-compete clauses, saying the hospital had a near monopoly when it acquired two local cardiology groups. This ruling and the lawsuit are two different cases.

The settlement included $872,000 in legal fees, $4.2 million paid to the 12 cardiologists, as well as concessions on privileges, competition and cooperation in the future. Renown also will conduct a full investigation on its management team. The deal also includes the opportunity for the cardiologists to leave Renown without penalty to join other employment.

The source says 12 cardiologists have left Renown and have joined Northern Nevada Medical Center and St. Mary’s. One other cardiologist settled in early January at a settlement conference, and has stayed with Renown. After the settlement for the one cardiologist, a trial began and went on for 3 weeks in front of Judge Adams.

FIFTEEN MILLION $$$.... and the question was ... "Is it going to be passed on to the consumer"... (duh)... How about... taking say 25% of the Board of directors salary and 50% of the CEO's until the debt is paid? (yeah.. I know Renown is "non-profit".. but, if its like every other "non-profit" the boys at the top are making VERY good money)! The action they took is just plain irresponsible and the liability should be on those who perpetrated this action
