RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. (AP) — Rescue divers have resumed searching a small, rocky ocean cove near Los Angeles for a 19-year-old man who disappeared while swimming with friends.

Los Angeles County sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says the search started again just after dawn Thursday at Abalone Cove in Rancho Palos Verdes.

The man went missing about 3 p.m. Wednesday. County fire and U.S. Coast Guard rescuers searched for him until sheriff's divers took over in the evening.

Friends of the missing man say they were jumping into the choppy water when he started yelling for help. They helped him get to a rock but he was swept by a wave.

Dangerous waves and riptides in the area have brought rescuers to the spot in Shoreline Park for several days in a row.
