St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The University of San Diego was selected as the preseason favorite in the Pioneer Football League preseason head coaches poll for a third straight year on Tuesday.
USD second-year coach Dale Lindsey returns just 12 starters from last season's 8-3 team - six on offense, four on defense and two special teams players. Included are a veteran receiving corps led by Reggie Bell, a first-team All-PFL pick, and Brandon White, and a deep secondary which includes Jamal Agnew and Matt Miller
USD received five of the 11 first-place votes in the poll and 90 of a possible 100 points. Dayton, which finished 7-4 last season to post a winning record for a 36th time in the last 37 seasons, was ranked second with 82 points despite not receiving a first-place vote.
Last year's co-champions, Butler and Marist, were picked fourth and sixth, respectively.
The PFL preseason team will be announced Wednesday.
