SAN DIEGO (AP) — Prosecutors say a pair of married San Diego police officers were selling prescription painkillers and addicted to drugs themselves.

U-T San Diego reports that 41-year-old Jennifer Charpentier and 32-year-old Bryce Charpentier pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony narcotics charges and to possession of a firearm by an addict. A judge said they could remain free on $50,000 bail.

A criminal complaint alleges the two were selling hydrocodone — sold commercially as Vicodin and other brands. Prosecutors also allege both are addicted to opiates, but would not elaborate on the evidence when asked outside court.

The department has put the couple on leave and their police power had been revoked. Jennifer Charpentier has worked for the department for 18 years and her husband for six years. They married last year.
