SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego policeman has shot three pit bulls that roamed a neighborhood attacking people.

Three people were injured in Tuesday morning attacks in the Bay Terraces neighborhood.

Sixty-year-old Norma Williams tells KNSD-TV she was walking to church when the dogs surrounded her, ripped her pants and bit her ankle. She fended them off with an umbrella and climbed a neighbor's fence.

Nineteen-year-old Michael Ward says he heard Williams screaming but was bitten in the torso and thigh when he went to help.

Police say a man in his late 70s was bitten on the face and arm. He went to a hospital.

A policeman shot the dogs when they charged. Two died at the scene and a vet euthanized the third.

Officers don't know who owns the dogs.
