CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval is seeking to expedite the transfer of $2.1 million to improve services at a Las Vegas psychiatric hospital and reduce the crush of mental health patients clogging hospital emergency rooms.
The state Budget Division on Monday submitted the request for consideration at a special meeting of the Legislature's Interim Finance Committee, though no meeting date has been set.
The funds have already been budgeted.
Last week an independent agency preliminarily denied accreditation for Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital, which has been under fire for allegations of patient dumping.
State officials said they won't appeal the findings by the Joint Commission but instead will seek a new review to consider recent policy changes.
They say accreditation is voluntary and doesn't affect the hospital's ability to bill Medicare or Medicaid.
