SAN DIEGO (AP) — A research firm says Southern California home sales slipped last month, dropping from both April and a year earlier. Prices climbed but at roughly half the year-ago pace.

DataQuick said Wednesday that a total of 19,556 homes sold in the six-county region in May. That was down 2.3 percent from slightly more than 20,000 sales the previous month.

The median sales price for new and existing single-family homes and condominiums was $410,000 — up 11.4 percent from $368,000 a year earlier.

The San Diego-based company said sales have fallen on a year-over-year basis for eight consecutive months.

Last month's sales were 23 percent below the May average of 25,393 sales.
