RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a Riverside County family had no idea the nativity scene decorating their lawn had been stolen from another yard 20 miles away.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports Monday that the white wooden silhouettes of Jesus, Mary and Joseph are back in the Temecula yard of its rightful owners.
The scene, built by Calvary Murrieta Christian School principal Derrick Roth and his son, was stolen from the family's lawn Dec. 8.
After the stolen scene appeared in news reports, someone noticed it in a yard in the Canyon Lake community and reported it.
Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Gaskins says the unidentified family didn't know it was stolen when they bought it, and the theft is still under investigation.
It was returned to the Roths, five days after it was taken.
