SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A suspect has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting a San Francisco police officer who was also shot.

Jeffrey Ruano entered his pleas in a San Francisco courtroom on Tuesday to charges including assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly trying to run down Officer Adam Shaw and another officer with his car on March 8.

Shaw was shot during the incident in the Mission District, but police have not been able to recover the bullet.

The 50-year-old Ruano has not been charged with the shooting since his arrest on March 9. He remains in jail on $50,000 bail. He's due back in court on Wednesday to set a preliminary hearing date.

Police say Shaw was released from the hospital on Thursday and have not ruled out that Shaw may have been shot by his partner.
