COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a man who fled an early-morning blaze at a suspected drug lab in Compton suffered severe burns.
City News Service reports a deputy noticed flames at a home in a residential neighborhood around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.
When he approached the residence, a van sped away, and deputies gave chase. During the pursuit, a passenger jumped from the vehicle and was later discovered to be severely burned. He was arrested. The driver of the van got away.
Sheriff's Lt. Nabele Meacham says deputies and Compton firefighters believe the house may have been used as a laboratory to manufacture PCP.
A sheriff's HazMat team was sent to the location but nearby homes were not evacuated.
The fire was reported knocked down around 5:30 a.m.
