LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting an elderly woman in a Las Vegas robbery attempt.

William Copeland was booked into the Clark County jail on murder and robbery charges after the shooting late Saturday night.

Investigators say the woman was walking on a sidewalk when a 16-year-old male driver and Copeland pulled up in a vehicle.

Copeland is accused of trying to rob the woman at gunpoint and shooting her when she refused to cooperate.

Police say both suspects were taken into custody after a vehicle with no lights was seen driving away from the area and stopped.

Though critically injured, the woman was able to give a statement to officers. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

Police did not release the name or charges for the 16-year-old suspect, citing his juvenile status.
