Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tennessee Titans have apparently found themselves a new backup quarterback on the free agent market, signing veteran Charlie Whitehurst to a multi-year contract on Thursday.

According to the Tennessean, the deal is for two years and can be worth up to $8 million if incentives are reached.

Whitehurst hasn't attempted a pass in an NFL game since making a pair of starts with Seattle in 2011, but is familiar with new Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who served as San Diego's offensive coordinator when Whitehurst backed up Philip Rivers last season.

Over eight NFL seasons with San Diego and Seattle, Whitehurst has completed 54.2 percent of his passes for 805 yards and three touchdowns with four interceptions. The 31-year-old has started only four times during that span.

Whitehurst's addition could mean the Titans are planning to move on from Ryan Fitzpatrick, who went 3-6 in nine starts after replacing an injured Jake Locker last season. Fitzpatrick is slated to earn a $3.25 million base salary in 2014.
