FERNLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Troopers are investigating a deadly crash that happened in Fernley ton Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, August 19, at approximately 1:44, troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a deadly motor vehicle crash in Fernley. The collision occurred on State Route 828, also known as Farm District Road, in Lyon County near mile marker 7.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they observed a black 1997 BMW 4-door sedan upside down in the irrigation canal just south of the roadway. It appears the driver was traveling west bound on the two-lane highway and failed to make a right hand curve. The vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane and drifted to hit a large cottonwood tree.

The vehicle rolled over onto its top in the dry irrigation canal and after ejecting the driver. The lone occupant in the BMW was found deceased underneath the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.

The victim been identified as 35-year-old Jason A. La France of Fernley and his immediate family has also been notified. It appears the La France was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

The Nevada Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team, or M.A.I.T., is investigating this crash. Anyone who has information regarding this collision is asked to contact Trooper Doug Hildebrand at 689-4623 or by e-mail at dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us.
