LOS ANGELES (AP) — A 27-year-old man accused of smashing the windows of a police car in Hollywood while people dressed as superheroes watched has been charged with vandalism, burglary and grand theft.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office reports charges were filed Thursday against Leyston Rice.

Authorities say Rice is the man an Australian tourist videotaped Tuesday afternoon as he walked up to a parked patrol car on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and knocked out its windows.

As the man reached into the car and removed a laptop, people dressed as Darth Vader and Superman stood by. So did numerous startled tourists.

Police handcuffed the man next to TV actress Susan Lucci's sidewalk star.

If convicted of all charges, Rice faces up to three years in jail.
