Washoe County School District Superintendent Pedro Martinez released the following statement regarding the tragic incident on Dec. 14 in Newtown, Connecticut:
"Here in the Washoe County School District, we are deeply saddened to hear about the tragedy in Connecticut today. We would like to express our deepest sorrow and sympathy for every child, parent, family, and school staff member who has been personally impacted by this senseless act. We know our most precious asset is our students. The safety of our children and staff is always a top priority, and we work diligently to ensure our classrooms and schools remain secure at all times. Our hearts are with our colleagues and the entire community in Newtown, Connecticut."
